Healthier environments could prevent almost one-quarter of the global burden of disease –
“World Health Organization (WHO)”.
The Butterfly is a sleek environmental health monitor that can be placed indoors or outdoors to allow you to monitor key environmental conditions and create a healthier environment for you and
your family.
Bad Air Quality - the silent enemy to your health
Air pollution kills more than 4 million people a year. The Butterfly detects exhaled CO from breath and VOCs (Short for Volatile Organic Compounds) and calculates an Indoor Air Quality Index (IAQ)
the value that establishes the quality of air within and around your buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of your family.
Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors as well as knowing when to ventilate based on the degradation of air quality can considerably help reduce your risk of indoor health concerns.
By placing Butterfly units in your living spaces, or outdoors, the Butterfly detects and alerts you of degradation of air quality and air pollutants, allowing you to open doors, run AC or resolve the source.
Some sources, such as aging building materials, furnishings, and products like air fresheners, can release pollutants continuously. Other sources, related to activities like cleaning, redecorating, or doing hobbies release pollutants intermittently. Unvented or malfunctioning appliances or improperly
used products can release higher and sometimes dangerous levels of pollutants indoors. Almost everything produces VOCs - even people. By keeping your windows shut, indoor VOC concentration
can build up quickly to an unhealthy level.
Light Pollution and sleep disorders
Light pollution hinders your body’s production of melatonin causing sleep and health disorders.
External lighting from street lamps and neon signs in major cities not just adds to the world's light
pollution problems but can also affect you and your children's health if they bleed into your
environment. The Butterfly captures and records these levels, allowing you to close your
curtains/blinds or report these issues to your community.
Noise Pollution and child development
Noise pollution affects the lives of millions of people, particularly children. Noise annoyance,
elevated blood pressure, psychological dysfunctions are just some of the health concerns from
continuous noise generated by air or land traffic, noisy appliances and fans, construction, etc.
Children are more sensitive to noise pollution, affecting child development. The Butterfly will alarm on
extreme noises, and store noise levels over time allowing noise sources to be resolved.
Air Pressure changes tied to body pains
Air pressure changes correlate to migraine headache frequency and other diseases. Changes to
Barometric pressure can trigger certain effects in the body, such as headaches, body aches and
pains, and allergy symptoms. Studies also link migraines to changes in air pressure. The Butterfly can
monitor 24/7 and send you an email when changes in pressure occur, allowing to either correlate
these changes to any health problems or allow you to avoid the occurrence.
Heat Index - a measure of how hot it really feels
Heat stress/stroke health issues are the No. 1 weather-related killer in the world. Population
exposure to heat is increasing due to climate change and causes both short-term health issues and
long-term. The Butterfly senses and notifies you of dangerous levels of the heat index which is a
measure of how hot it really feels when humidity and other factors are considered along with the
temperature. These warnings help you prevent exposure and act. A high heat index can sap your
energy and make it tough to focus and sleep. Low heat indexes can raise your blood pressure and
heart rate, plus increase your vulnerability to illness.
The need to control humidity at home
Creating a space with the ideal indoor humidity level means your family is more comfortable, you’re
protecting your home, and more importantly protects your family’s health. The optimum relative
humidity level is between 30 and 50%. As the moisture level in the air increases, you may begin to
feel hot and sticky. An increase in moisture can also affect certain health conditions like Asthma,
making it difficult to breathe and provide an environment for mold and termites. When the air is dry,
meaning the humidity level is too low, you may experience dry skin, an irritated throat, or itchy eyes.
A lack of moisture can also cause your wood floors or furniture to crack.
Butterfly - Your families personal environmental health protection
A thermostat on a wall only provides temperature feedback at that location, and not actual environmental conditions at the correct locations for your family. The Butterfly is a portable battery operated personal environmental monitoring device, notifying you if any key environmental conditions will effect your families health; allowing you to take action. In addition the above,
Settings are based on EPA, WHO and university study settings for the ideal environment and can easily be adjusted if desired. Keep a Butterfly in appropriate rooms and take one with you when you travel. The Butterfly will empower you to mitigate harmful, rapid changes in conditions.
